Introduction
Psychotherapy in English in Budapest
András Hang, Clinical Psychologist, and Psychoterapist
I provide individual psychotherapy and psychological consultations for adults in English and Hungarian.
People seek psychotherapy for many different reasons. You may be experiencing anxiety, panic attacks, low mood, difficulties in your relationships, grief or a difficult period in your life. Sometimes there is no single identifiable problem: you may simply feel that certain situations or patterns keep repeating, that something is holding you back, or that you would like to understand yourself and your relationships more deeply.
Psychotherapy can provide a safe and confidential setting in which these difficulties can be explored and understood.
How I can help
You may consider contacting me if you are experiencing:
- anxiety, persistent worry or panic attacks;
- fears, phobias or avoidance;
- depressive symptoms or loss of motivation;
- difficulties with self-esteem or self-confidence;
- relationship or intimacy problems;
- recurring conflicts or difficulties in forming and maintaining relationships;
- grief, loss or separation;
- a personal or life crisis;
- difficulties related to major life changes;
- emotional difficulties that are hard to understand or manage;
- recurring patterns in your life that you would like to understand and change.
You do not need to know exactly what kind of therapy you need before contacting me. This is something we can consider together during the first consultations.
My approach
My work is based primarily on a psychodynamic and integrative approach to psychotherapy.
Psychological symptoms are often connected not only to our present circumstances but also to the ways in which we have learned to relate to ourselves and to other people. Some of these patterns may operate outside our immediate awareness and may become particularly visible in close relationships, stressful situations or periods of change.
In therapy, we work together to understand these patterns and the emotions associated with them. The aim is not simply to reduce symptoms, but also to develop a deeper understanding of yourself and to create the possibility of more flexible and satisfying ways of living and relating to others.
Depending on the individual therapeutic process, I may also use experiential methods, including elements of psychodrama, monodrama and Katathym Imaginative Psychotherapy (KIP).
These methods can help us explore experiences that may be difficult to access through conversation alone. Imagery, role work and therapeutic enactment can make inner conflicts, emotions and relationship patterns more tangible and provide an opportunity to experience and try out new ways of responding.
The choice of method always depends on the individual, the therapeutic goals and the stage of the therapeutic process.
The first consultation
The first meeting gives us an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy and what you would like to change.
I will ask about your current difficulties, relevant aspects of your personal history and previous experiences with psychological or psychiatric treatment, if any. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions and to get a sense of how I work.
The first consultation does not oblige you to begin psychotherapy.
In some cases, several initial meetings may be useful before we can decide together what kind of therapeutic approach and setting would be most appropriate.
If we decide to work together, we will discuss the goals and framework of the therapy, including the frequency of sessions and other practical arrangements.
About me
I am a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist working with adults in private practice in Budapest.
Over the course of my professional training and clinical work, I have studied and used several psychotherapeutic approaches. My therapeutic orientation is primarily psychodynamic, complemented by experiential and action-oriented methods.
An important part of my work is understanding not only a person’s symptoms but also the individual behind them: their personal history, relationships, emotional experiences and characteristic ways of coping with difficult situations.
I see psychotherapy as a collaborative process. The therapeutic relationship provides a confidential and professionally structured setting in which difficult experiences can be explored without judgement and in which new perspectives and ways of relating can gradually emerge.
Confidentiality
Psychotherapy and psychological consultations are confidential. Information discussed during sessions is treated in accordance with professional and ethical standards.
At the beginning of therapy, we will also discuss the practical and professional framework of our work together.
Sessions in English
I offer psychotherapy and psychological consultations in English as well as Hungarian.
Living abroad or adapting to life in another country can bring particular psychological challenges. Difficulties involving relationships, identity, belonging, isolation, work or major life transitions may become more pronounced when living outside one’s home country.
English-speaking clients living in Hungary are welcome to contact me for an initial consultation.
